Preparing for your trip

A little preparation helps everything run smoothly while you're away. Please review this checklist before each trip and make sure your Client Portal information is current.

1. Review Your Client Portal

Make sure your pet and home information is current before every trip. Review feeding instructions, routines, veterinarian information, medications, home-care instructions, access information, and anything else that may have changed.

If you make an important change—especially involving medications, feeding, access, or your pet’s care—please update the portal and message me directly so I know to look for it.

2. Make Sure Your Emergency Contact Is Prepared

Your emergency contact should be local, not traveling with you, and aware that you’ve designated them as your emergency contact.

They should have a reliable way to reach you while you’re traveling and independent access to your home through a working key and/or current entry code.

If your regular phone number won’t be available—for example, during a cruise or international travel—please provide the best way to reach you while you’re away.

3. Confirm Home Access

Please make sure I have reliable access to your home and confirm the specific entrance I should use- front door, back door, garage, side door, gate, etc.

Before leaving, make sure:

  • Keys work in the intended door.
  • Door/garage keypads and smart locks work.
  • Batteries are good
  • Lockboxes contain the correct key and the code is current.
  • Gate or garage codes work
  • All applicable codes are saved in your Client Portal (under access instructions)
  • A backup method of entry is available whenever possible.

4. Check Pet Supplies

Leave enough supplies for the entire booking, with a little extra in case your return is delayed.

That includes whatever applies to your pets: food, treats, litter, waste bags, medications, leashes/harnesses, carriers, cleaning supplies, paper towels, and special-care items.

Please keep everything easy to find.

5. Confirm Medications & Special Care

If medications, dosages, supplements, feeding instructions, mobility needs, or other care requirements have changed, please update your Client Portal and let me know directly before your trip.

Please leave enough medication for the entire booking, plus a little extra in case your return is unexpectedly delayed.

Before traveling, please make sure your veterinarian information is current in your Client Portal and that your veterinary office has a valid payment method on file. In the event

6. Prepare Your Home

Let me know about anything I may encounter while you’re away—contractors, houseguests, family members stopping by, maintenance appointments, alarm changes, gate issues, scheduled services, etc.

If plant care is included in your booking, make sure instructions are current and supplies are accessible.

Mail & packages: I’m happy to bring in mail and packages I find during scheduled visits. Just let me know where you’d like them placed.

7. Confirm Your Departure Time

Please confirm your departure time on the day you leave.

I’ll normally check in the day before your trip to confirm your plans and make sure your first scheduled visit still works with your departure time.

If your plans change, please let me know.

8. Do One Last Check Before You Leave

Before heading out, make sure your pets are where they’re supposed to be; food, medication and supplies are accessible; water fountains/bowls are functioning; doors and gates are secure; access points work; the thermostat is appropriately set; and your emergency contact and Client Portal information are current.

Then go enjoy your trip. 😊

9. While You're Away

You’ll receive visit reports, photos, and updates through your Client Portal.

If anything changes that could affect your pets or scheduled visits, please message me as soon as possible.

Otherwise: enjoy your trip—I’ve got the pets. 🐾

10. Confirm Your Return Time

I’ll normally contact you the day before you’re scheduled to return to confirm your expected arrival time.

If you’re delayed, or your plans change, please let me know as soon as possible so we can make sure your pets remain covered until you’re safely home.

11. Let me know You're Home

Once you’re home and reunited with your pets, please send me a quick message. That lets me know you’ve safely returned and resumed their care.

Plans Changed?

Travel delays happen. Please keep me informed of signifiant changes to your departure or return plans so there isn't an unintended gap in your pets' care.
